Facebook members expect some privacy
I think Facebook.com members do have a reasonable expectation of privacy in that the content they post is intended for legitimate Facebook members, not law enforcement officials in disguise ("Site used to aid investigations," Nov. 10). The Facebook terms of service agreement states that members of the Facebook should not "impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent yourself or your affiliation with any person or entity." I would think that university officers gathering alleged trespassing evidence violated their agreement with Facebook, because when doing a search, I could not find anyone affiliated with the Penn State University Police. If they are there to gather information, should they are required to say so. I don't see how public domain can be asserted once a legitimate account is established. Information obtained from the Facebook is fruit from the poisonous tree. Next time, the police should do a better job when the offenses are being committed and not waste tax and university dollars surfing the Internet after the fact. I respect the police, but they should not resort to violating a contract with a Web site to catch petty criminals. Richard Rattanni
