Letter to the Editor
Women should work in male-dominated jobs

After reading the letters regarding feminist ideals, I found the phrase "equal pay for equal work" intriguing ("Many misunderstand feminist movement," Nov. 10). While sexual discrimination exists in the workplace, I think the disparity between the wages of men and women is self-inflicted by women vis-a-vis their career choices.

For example, go into any undergraduate engineering class at Penn State. Almost 100 percent of the time you will find a majority of the students are men. Now go into an elementary education class. You will probably find that the majority of students are women. Which of these professions is likely to earn more money? I'm not condoning or decrying the fact, but the engineers are much more likely to be making more money after graduation.

If women really want to close the income gap, they are not going to find the answers in women's studies class; they are going to find the answers in calculus class.
