The Collegian's editorial proclaiming student apathy by citing that only 110 students voted in Tuesday's election deserves scrutiny ("Student voter turn-out shows political apathy, ignorance of local issues," Nov. 9).
Generally speaking, students who spend four years in a university will not take the time to research local issues or register to vote on because they won't feel any long-term effects from such decisions.
And, to explain the editorial's claim that over 3,000 lined up to vote last year, the influx of voters was due to the fact that a presidential election took place and students were responding to national calls to sign up to vote. Don't blindly compare statistics without considering the relevant underlying factors. Students aren't apathetic; they just have no long-term investment in State College politics that warrants them voting locally.
