Thon shows campus can make difference
I can't comprehend how someone like Thomas Mei can claim "Thon pride" makes them sick ("Philanthropic acts should not be limited to Thon," Nov. 9). If people wear Penn State gear, does that make him sick? When you have pride and develop a passion for something, you tend to want to display it. When I look down at my wrist I think about what's going on in Hershey right then. That little bracelet is a constant reminder of why we care and why we are united together. We care so much about Thon because so many of us have developed such a close bond with the kids and their families. We want to do everything we can to help them, because they have become an extended part of our family. And yes, part of the way we help is by "camping out collecting coins." Mei asked where the credit is for other students who participate in philanthropic efforts. It is not about credit or thanks. Just walk around Rec Hall Thon weekend and watch the kids smile. That's what it's all about. It's a weekend for the kids and their families to escape. It's a weekend that constantly reminds us that when we work together we can make a difference in a child's life.
