Thon children benefit from students' work

Thomas Mei's insolent disrespect in in his column, "Philanthropic acts should not be limited to Thon," Nov. 9, toward the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon sickens me. I do not understand why he is so appalled by Thon culture. If he believes that Thon is not a "good enough" cause, why doesn't he become more involved and start another philanthropy? It seems that he doesn't really care; he just needed something to write. He uses his own concoctions to make supporters seem malicious with such biases as "those who don't support Thon are going straight to hell."

Although Mei seems so adamantly against Thon, he goes to great lengths to praise it in between his ranting. I was confused as to what Mei's opinion actually is. He constantly contradicts himself with such phrases as "Thon is a great event that supports a great cause ... but perhaps Thon is for the wrong kids." Well, what's the deal; is it a virtuous cause or are we giving money to the wrong kids?

In closing, I would like to say that I honestly hope and pray that no Thon child or parent sees Mei's column. If so, they are due an apology and I'm sure that the thousands of students who support Thon and all these children will be glad to offer such an apology on behalf of The Daily Collegian and the entire student body.
