Feminists advocate equal opportunities
I do not know whether or not The Daily Collegian's columnists are serious or if they are simply trying to get a rise out of the student body. Scott Dimmich's column "Feminist society would dissatisfy many women," Nov. 8, was inane and simpleminded. While I'm sitting in my women's studies class learning about sexism in the work force and the statistics of sexual violence, Dimmich is busy making idiotic references to feminism causing the death of chivalry. He claims that if the world today were truly feminist, men could no longer buy drinks for women in bars. I offer him this -- one in eight women at Penn State will be a victim of rape over her four years in Happy Valley. Maybe now Dimmich can understand why feminists have more important priorities than fighting about who pays for dinner or whose turn it is to open the car door. Feminism anticipates a future that guarantees human dignity and equality for all people. Kaitlyn Marchek
