Many misunderstand feminist movement
Opening doors, paying for dinner and walking a woman home are not the issues concerning the majority of feminists; they are merely attempts by men get us to take them home. But in all honesty, I am not writing this response to Scott Dimmich's column, "Feminist society would dissatisfy many women," Nov. 8, to stereotype or bash men as he has done to feminist women. The man-hating feminists Dimmich portrays represent an outspoken minority of feminists. These women are often referred to as "Femi-Nazis" and unfortunately have given feminism a bad rap. As a result, the mere utterance of the "F" word makes men and women cringe in discomfort at the negative connotations implied by the word "feminism." However, the feminist movement is highly misunderstood; feminism aims to gain equal rights for women and equal pay for equal work. Yes, men and women are inherently different and it must be so, but women deserve the same opportunities as men. I am a feminist and will be the first to admit it. A man can take me out to dinner and pay the bill anytime, but I should not be discriminated against because I have an XX chromosome. Men can be feminists too if they believe in equal rights for women. It does not make them any less of men and will probably make them more popular with the ladies. Rachel Harrar
