Charges dismissed in harassment case

Indecent and simple assault charges against a State College resident William Corbett were dismissed Wednesday. Centre County Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Fenton said the commonwealth will be filing the charges again and could not comment on the reason for the charges being dismissed or future actions. The dismissed charges, which also include harassment, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct, stem from an incident that occurred at about 4 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Stadium. Penn State University Police said Corbett was apprehended after he allegedly fell onto a woman, groped her and struck her in the chest.

Laptop, 600 CDs stolen from residence

The State College Police Department said a burglary occurred between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Highland Avenue. Police said a Dell laptop computer, about 600 compact discs, 40 DVDs and a Canon photo printer were stolen. Police said the value of the items is $6,565. The residents said they were asleep in the apartment at the time of the burglary and did not hear anything. The door was left unlocked and there were no signs of forced entry, police said. There are no suspects.

Police catch robber returning money

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A man who allegedly robbed a bank of $1,100 yesterday made it easy on police.

Authorities said that just minutes after Andre M. Ellis, 39, robbed an ESB Bank in Ambridge, they caught him standing in front of the bank trying to return the money.

Ambridge Police Chief David Sabol said the alleged robber felt bad about stealing the money and the heist didn't appear to be the work of a hardened bank robber.

According to police, Ellis walked into the bank just before 10 a.m. and slipped a teller a note asking for money. It also asked for God's forgiveness and said he wouldn't be robbing a bank if he wasn't in trouble, police said.
