Americans should thank Iraqi people

This is a response to the cartoon published on Oct. 28. The cartoon showed a list of Americans killed in Iraq and the sentence "We the people of Iraq should get down on our knees and thank..." written above it.

The human life is the most precious thing in the world, losing 2,000 lives is a terrible thing, but focusing only on the American losses ignores the main part of the disaster.

According to the Iraq Body Count Web Site, www.iraqbodycount.net, a respected database run by a group of academics and peace activists, the number of reported civilian deaths has reached about 27,000 people. Sources estimate that 20 percent of them are women and children.

The Iraqi people shouldn't thank anyone. On the contrary, they should be thanked and compensated for all the losses they have incurred because of political interests with which they had nothing to do.
