I agree wholeheartedly with Teddy Whisperton's disapproval of Phroth's conduct during last Friday's Homecoming parade ("Phroth lacks taste at Homecoming parade," Nov. 3). I am also shocked and disgusted at the blatant act of humor that Phroth committed while the rest of us were trying to have a good time.
Homecoming is one of greatest and proudest traditions of Penn State, and for anyone to so much as blink during the procession is akin to spitting on the Joe Paterno statue while wearing a Pitt jersey and singing "Hail to the Victors" at the top of their lungs. I stand firmly at attention until the Penn State Blue Band passes, soaking in the solemn dignity that is Penn State Homecoming. Like Whisperton, I was disgusted by the portrayal of the Nittany Lion on the cover of Phroth.
Something as important as the lion should not ever be regarded in a humorous way, which is why I also disapprove of his one-armed pushups, crowd surfing and skits. It's just not right to mix our mascot with humor.
I hope Phroth will take a lesson from this and stop trying to be so funny and satirical.
