Cattell's preachings difficult to believe
My wife brings home The Daily Collegian to me every day, and I go right to the opinion page to see who's saying what that day. Kate Ericsson's brilliant commentary on what I call "Christian terrorists" (convert or go to hell) really clicked for me ("Aggressive evangelical message falls on deaf ears," Oct. 31). Actually, my take on Gary Cattell, or the Willard Preacher, is that he's actually a grand-standing ham whose allotted 15 minutes of fame was up a long, long time ago. I frankly don't think Cattell means or believes a word he says; he just needs an audience. I had a very interesting exchange with him one day a few years ago. He'd paused for a moment to catch his breath and I said loudly enough for him to hear that "Q is God" ("Q" from Star Trek: The Next Generation). Cattell's response was a total surprise and gave away more of his act than he realized. Cattell looked in my direction and sincerely laughed -- he knew who Q was and stepped out of his role for a moment because my remark caught him off guard. Joseph Hamburger
