Cheering appropriate during entire game

When I read Madeline Martin's "suggestion" on fan participation, I was perplexed ("Fans need lessons about game cheers," Nov. 1). I didn't know cheering at a collegiate football game had its own playbook. Alert the "cheering police" on the improper use of the wave.

Apparently Martin has devised appropriate rules of when to do a particular cheer. As long as there are no obscenities, cheering should be open season at any point during the game. The next time our Lions have the ball, I'll let everyone know not to do the wave because it might kill their focus. I'm sure I will get tons of positive support.

To all the die-hards in and around Happy Valley, cheer loud and proud at any point during the game because our team has made us proud. Besides, we are talking football, aren't we?
