Man's Halloween costume catches fire

A Penn State student received second-degree burns and a disorderly conduct citation after he accidentally lighted his Halloween costume on fire, Penn State University Police said.

The student, who wrapped himself in toilet paper and pretended to be a mummy, went outside to smoke a cigarette, and his costume went up in flames, Officer Raymond Trexler said.

His resident assistant called police after observing the victim and about five friends throwing the remains of his costume into a nearby tree, Trexler said.

The victim received second-degree burns to his left hand and singed his hair, pants, shoelaces and T-shirt, Trexler said, adding that he refused to be taken for treatment at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
