Three Academic Assembly members had their last night in the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) on Monday night.
The assembly asserted its policy that members would be removed from office after 12 absences and removed two general members and one representative.
Lisa Mahhalova and Jason Baranello were the two general members of the assembly who were removed from their positions.
Vice President of Operations Sara Yerger said that Mahhalova had not attended any of the assembly's meetings, and Baranello had attended one.
Melissa Tomcavage, the Eberly College of Science representative who was removed, had been to one meeting but had to leave early, Yerger said.
Tomcavage responded to an e-mail message sent by Yerger to request that the assembly allow her to continue in her position because she wants to make the transition from Commonwealth Campuses to University Park easier for change-of-assignment students.
Tomcavage said in the e-mail message that because she is a transfer student, she has a different perspective than the other members of the assembly.
She said that she also believes that assembly needs to be more flexible because she has other time commitments.
While the floor was opened to discussion during the vote to remove members, there was little debate.
The most discussion occurred after the reading of Tomcavage's e-mail message to the assembly.
Some assembly members were angered by her statement and said that representatives need to honor their commitment to the assembly.
Beth Shore, the representative for the Schreyer Honors College, said she did not see a point in discussing the topic any further.
Mahhalova, Baranello and Tomcavage could not be reached by The Daily Collegian for comment by press time. None of the three members attended Monday's meeting.
