"It will definitely be positive because they came off two bad losses the weekend before. But they know we are playing a good team, and they know they have to play up so I don't feel they will be too overconfident," Brinton said.
Defense seemed to be the weaker aspect of the Lady Icers' game last weekend. At the conclusion of the games, Brinton stated his squad's upcoming practices would hold more defensive drills.
"The defense is looking better. We are going to be missing Esther Gomez, a strong player, this weekend and our assistant defense coach will not be able to come with us. We just have to play smart," Brinton said.
Gomez, a Lady Icers key player, has previous engagements and will not be able to attend the games. Freshman Megan Hayden feels as though the team will be okay despite her absence.
"She definitely is a strong player, but I do believe we will step up to the plate," Hayden stated.
Amherst split a series this past weekend with the University of Buffalo. Behind the efforts of Kelly Rowe, the team's relentless offense does cause a threat to the Lady Icers.
Brinton does not seem overly concerned.
"Massachusetts has a really good forward line. Kelly Rowe is an excellent player and she could us give a lot of trouble," he said.
Brinton realizes the Lady Icers are facing an aggressive team.
"They are a very rough team. We might get some bumps and bruises, but it will be worth it," he said.
The team hopes its true colors are beginning to shine through. The chemistry is strong, and it is showing through on the ice. Hayden knows this will continue through this weekend.
"We will work together as a team this weekend without a doubt," she said.
