This is "like" getting "like" ridiculous. There is an epidemic going around this campus. The "like" epidemic. You know, it's like when students like can't formulate like a whole sentence without like abusing the word "like." My first thought was to write this entire letter abusing the word "like" in the same way that many students do in almost every conversation, but then I realized how ineffective that would be.
This "like" epidemic is getting out of hand. We are educated students, the best of the best, yet we don't sound as though we are. The bottom line is that using the word like makes you sound unintelligent. It appears as if you are not confident in your opinions. When you say something is "like green" it sounds as if you are unsure of its greenness. And using the word like can greatly distract your listeners.
Instead of listening the other day to a fellow classmate's opinion, I found myself counting how many "likes" she said in 45 seconds (25 plus which is about one "like" every two seconds).
Moral of the story: I challenge Penn State students to step back and listen to yourself and others because I can like guarantee that if you like use the word "like" like too many times in like a job interview, you are not going to like get like hired. What a waste of thousands of dollars that would be all because of a little four-letter word.
