This is in response to Thomas Mei's column "Homophobia more than just spouting remarks," Oct. 26. Mei seems to be under the impression that everyone who is not actually a homosexual is "anti-gay."
Not all of us have to "cover our eyes" when gays appear on television or in public. Some of us really do accept gays for what they are and accept the fact that certain people are different. He seems to think that a stare or raised eyebrow means the person is homophobic. Some people simply aren't accustomed to seeing people who live a lifestyle that is different from the majority.
With Penn State being the cultural melting pot it is, you can't categorize people who aren't gay into "homophobes" and "pro-gay activists" -- it's simply not black and white. All of us have very different feelings when it comes to this issue. He is committing the same crime as the people he writes about in his column -- he is generalizing.
