Glee Club President J. Michael Curci said members have been practicing for this concert since the beginning of September.
"We practice twice a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings," Curci said. "We primarily get ready for the concert right away."
The concert will mark the first Glee Club performance under Kiver, who is the club's ninth director. He also directs the Chamber Singers and teaches choral conducting and choral literature classes.
"I think he'll do a good job," School of Music Director Sue Haug said. "He's got terrific background and a lot of energy, and he's a great musician. I'm very impressed with him, so I think everybody will enjoy the concert."
Kiver said he is looking forward to his first concert with the celebrated Penn State Glee Club.
"The Glee Club has a long and rich tradition," Kiver said. "I am very honored to carry on that tradition and be able to do it in public for the first time."
The Hi-Lo's and the Varsity Quartet, which are smaller divisions of the main chorus, will also perform at the concert. Kiver said these groups sing lighter songs.
The 75-member Glee Club is Penn State's oldest musical club, founded in 1888. The club tours throughout the United States, and in the past few years has traveled as far as Wales, Trinidad and France. The club has also performed in venues such as the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York. On a group trip to California last year, one member won $10,000 on The Price Is Right.
"The whole trip was amazing, just being in California and driving down the coast," Lawrence Putorek (senior-music education) said.
The Glee Club has also released five albums, including 2004's Glee Club Gold, a three-disc celebration of the Glee Club's greatest hits.
This event is one of two annual concerts that the Glee Club performs.
Tickets cost $3 for students and $7 for general admission and can be purchased at the door before the concert or by calling 863-0225.
Kiver promises that this concert will offer a wide range of entertainment.
"It's a concert for all ages; I guarantee there will be something audience members will like," he said.
