In response to Thomas Mei's column about celebrity relationships ("Celebrity relationships educational for 'average Joe'," Oct. 19), I have never been so angry with a newspaper who would publish such a sexist and idiotic column.
Mei's views on women are completed outdated and downright insulting. What the heck are women doing in college if we should only be applying for secretarial jobs? You mean our boyfriends/husbands are going to leave us if we make more money than them? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Women in college today are working hard to receive the same jobs and pay as men. I'll be damned if one opinionated columnist will make me feel less like of a hard-working women because I will be a college graduate with a generous paying job and not working as a secretary as he suggests.
Also, to compare Hollywood relationships to your own relationship is completely wrong. The world sees these people move in and out of relationships faster than anyone else. These people are not rolemodels for relationships. Famous people date other famous people.
For The Daily Collegian to even print such a horrible column really makes me worry what they will print next. As for Thomas Mei, his chauvinistic view on women only makes me think that he wrote such a column because he can't get any women himself.
