Ideological respect two way street for all
I am writing in response to Jonathan Bittner's opinion about the lack of ideological diversity ("PSU lacks important ideological diversity," Oct. 17). I agree that there is a lack of political diversity but let's put the shoe on the other foot. He asks why liberals label conservatives' points of view as "hate speech." Perhaps it's the same reason why conservatives label liberals as "unpatriotic" or "un-American" when conservatives don't like liberals' points of view. He suggests that when conservatives come up with good points, liberals call conservatives racists, fascists and God-lovers. Then again conservatives go into equivalent foaming rages of anger by calling liberals communists, France-lovers and hippies when liberals come up with good points. I say that rather than crying "oppression," we should look in ourselves and realize that respect is a two-way street. Treat others as you want to be treated. Joseph Emerson
