My Opinion
Celebrity relationships educational for 'average Joe '

Nick and Jessica. TomKat. Bridget Jones and Kenny Chesney. What do those three have in common? Not much, except that there's a lot we can learn from these celebrity relationships.

What we can learn is simple things like the fact if your partner is highly successful like, say, Jessica Simpson, then she will eventually turn into a Prima Donna from the sweet southern belle she used to be. Seriously, who didn't see this coming?

While rumors have been swirling for months, the news was broken in the past weeks about an upcoming split of America's favorite couple. And apparently no one is surprised. Your wife is hot. She makes more money than you. Obviously, it would only be time before she an evil and self-obsessive person. Southern belle becomes America's diva.

It was only a matter of time before multi-millionaire Nick Lachey turned his attention to a 19-year-old Ohio State student. Lesson here? If the female partner makes more money than the male, then naturally the man will leave.

So ladies, be sure to snatch up those secretary positions as quick as you can. If and when you become rich and successful, your boyfriend or husband will indeed leave you.

Then there's Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, or what is now dubbed "TomKat." You see Tom Cruise is old, like creepy old. Cruise turned 43 earlier this year. Katie Holmes, in contrast, is really young. She doesn't turn 27 until later this year.

What's more disturbing is the fact that Katie Holmes does indeed look 16 and Tom Cruise does indeed look like the 43-year-old at bars who picks up 16-year-olds. Apparently multi-millionaires like Tom Cruise can attract pretty much anyone. In the past, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and now Katie Holmes.

Guys can take a cue or two from Tom Cruise. No, don't blow up at people that squirt water at you. And don't take into the Church of Scientology. If you become rich and famous like Tom Cruise, you too can date beautiful women which are otherwise untouchable by the average Joe. Note the irony since wealth and fame had a negative effect on Nick and Jessica.

Finally there's Renée Zellweger of Bridget Jones' Diary fame and Kenny Chesney of something ... what did he do? After a short marriage of five months, they filed for divorce because of what Zellweger has called "fraud."

Apparently this Kenny fellow didn't want to impregnate Bridget Jones. Hey, who could blame him? There's only so much a man can be asked to do.

The lesson here is the universal time-tested truth about women that all men should know: Women never forget, and for the most part, women never forgive.

Such small details as forgetting birthdays, showing up late for dinner and failing to mention that you don't want children before getting married will leave lasting eternal memories in all women.

They'll rant about it long after you're dead. My grandmother used to rant about things my grandfather did when they were dating ... like in the last century.

Looking over these relationships we can say three things should be accepted as unwritten law: Women should make less money than men, men should strive to make god-awful amounts of mone,. and above all else, men should never lie to women.
