A new 32-space parking lot across from the State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St., will open today, State College Public Works Director Mark Whitfield said.

The lot will provide three-hour parking meters for public parking and links Central Parklet to Allen Street by a green way.

There will also be an "edible garden," along Allen Street, between the sidewalk and parking lot, which will probably feature cabbage and kale, he said. The project is part of continuing efforts to provide parking for the municipal building and renovate Central Parklet. Construction began in early September. The parking lot cost $162,000, and the green way cost $120,000, Whitfield said.
