Advance Auto Parts gets bomb threat

Ferguson Township police are investigating a bomb threat made at about 10 a.m. yesterday at Advance Auto Parts, 1602 N. Atherton St.

A parts manager received a telephone call at about 9:50 a.m. from a man who said he placed a bomb in the large trash bin outside the store. According to a Ferguson Township police press release, police secured the area and a Penn State University Police bomb-detecting dog searched for an explosive device, but nothing was found.

During the search, police found a five-gallon container of Toluene, a hazardous and highly flammable substance. The container was marked as "Gun Cleaner" and was placed beside the trash container by an unknown person, according to the release. Advance Auto Parts management had to contact a hazardous materials disposal company to remove the container from the property.

Anyone with information regarding the bomb threat or the disposal of hazardous waste on Advance Auto Parts property should contact Ferguson Township police at 237-1172.
