In response to the many letters and articles in The Daily Collegian about the force used by police officers ("Police should explain pepper spray usage," Oct. 11), I would like to say that this situation is very humorous to me. What if police officers had let the entire stadium rush the field? People would have gotten more injured, the field (which was just replaced with $100,000 of your money) would have to be replaced again, and all order would be lost with thousands of drunken fans with nothing holding them back.
Why don't people realize the police have jobs for a reason and that reason is to keep the order that was inevitably lost last Saturday? Had they not been there and done an excellent job, you would have been just as upset as you are now for different reasons. Accept the fact that rushing the field was probably not the best idea and move on with your lives.
The police are not there to hurt anyone; they are just there for control and that is exactly what they did. If your eyes had to burn for a couple of hours, so be it. Nobody died, everyone had a good night in the end and that is all that matters.
