In response to the editorial "National Coming Out Day promotes equality needed everyday on PSU campus," Oct. 13, The Daily Collegian said that, "On a daily basis, Penn State students can still be heard on campus and downtown using the word "gay" as if it carries with it some sort of implicit negative connotation." It should have negative connotations.
Being gay is not a good thing. It may not be evil, as the ultra-right-wing suggests; but it is certainly not an admirable quality.
In the same way the homosexual minority is and should be free to live according to their own lifestyle choices, the rest of us should be free to openly and honestly express disagreement without being branded "homophobic." I don't fear or resent homosexuals -- I simply disagree with their lifestyle choices and I would appreciate it if they stopped demanding that I bend over backward to embrace and encourage their behavior.
