Police should explain pepper spray usage
I am not happy with the way the State College Police Department and Penn State University Police treated the students. Rushing the field after one of the biggest wins ever should have been expected. Police should have assessed the situation and made sure things did not get out of control. The stadium crowd didn't get out of control. But was it honestly necessary to use pepper spray on those few excited fans? I could see the need if fans were trying to tear up the goal posts, if fans were starting fights with one another, if fans were destroying property, yet I did not see any of this happen. What I did see were students running to water fountains trying to relieve the pain in their eyes. What I did see was a group of students who had all been doused in pepper spray sitting in a circle on the ground because they were unable to walk. What I did receive was a push in the back from an officer when I was trying to clear the stadium. I want an answer for why this force was necessary. I want to know why we should put so much faith and trust into those people who are "protecting us" when I see students being sprayed with pepper spray, pushed, and disrespected for no apparent reason.
