Letter to the Editor
Fans don't need to use profane chants

I was at the Penn State football game Saturday and witnessed one of the most perfect Saturday afternoons in recent history. I'm an alumnus, husband of a Penn State graduate, father of two Penn State students, season ticket holder, avid football fan, and Penn State lover. Let me also qualify my next remark by saying that I'm not a prude. Not even close.

But I was disappointed with the chanting of ridicule for Minnesota's Jamal Harris on Saturday. Not outraged, not flabbergasted, but disappointed. Maybe even on the verge of being embarrassed for those doing the chanting. The simple fact is, screaming the f-word isn't necessary and it does nothing but reflect poorly on you as Penn Staters.

Everyone over six-years-old knows that word and it isn't necessary to chant it to 105,000 others to let them know that you also know it. I hope that you won't allow a few to embarrass the entire student body on national TV when the real spotlight is on you this coming Saturday night.
