Letter to the Editor
Columnist should not apologize for views

My letter is in response to Thomas Mei's article on Wednesday ("Race relations problems rampant at Penn State," Sept. 28).

First, I must say Mei is exactly what this newspaper needs. I have never seen so many letters dedicated to one man's opinion. I love it. Getting a reaction is a columnist's job.

This week, I agree with Mei. I may not be a full fledged racist like the members of the Ku Klux Klan, but I do believe that everyone has some racism in them, including me. I'm sure that there are even professionals here, and else where, who also agree with him. He made a good point when he mentioned the fact that when referring to a person, if you mention their race you're being racist -- whether or not you're willing to admit it.

Brittany Moore wrote in her letter ("Racism not prevalent among PSU students," Sept. 29) that neither she nor anyone she knows is a racist. I doubt that she can honestly tell me that when she has referred to a person that she also has never mentioned their race.

Sorry Brittany, but I do not feel that anyone deserves an apology from Mei. I recommend next time that you be honest with yourself. We're all a little racist.
