Letter to the Editor
Smokers pump a lot of money into bars

I am writing this letter in response to the editorial, "Bars should reconsider smoke-free evenings throughout the week," Sept. 28.

OK, I am one of the smokers that non-smokers hate because I make them smell and pollute their lungs with my Parliaments. I know everyone in State College has something to say about bars and smoking, but the bar owners aren't voluntarily going to say their patrons can't smoke. Why? Because of money.

The bar owners know something about smokers that non-smokers do not know; they know that when we drink, we want to smoke. It is some unexplained mystery of life, but it's true.

We smoke like we can't get enough nicotine when we have a drink in our hands. Smokers puff their cigarettes all year long, even in the rain, snow and cold.

So, when The Daily Collegian says that smokers will smoke less, save money and make everyone happy if all bars went smoke-free, they are dead wrong.

The only thing that the bar owners see is smokers leaving to have a smoke, not knowing if we'll come back in their bar to purchase another drink.
