Letter to the Editor
Writer should stick to topics he knows

I would like to dispute Scott Dimmich's column regarding college relationships ("Realistic expectations key to college relationships," Sept. 27).

He seems to be confused throughout his column. First, he mocks relationships with the stereotypical "romance novel" view; then he audaciously announces that college students are too immature to know what love is and that sex is the prominent aspect of these juvenile relationships.

Finally, he concludes that relationships need to become more "mature, real and personal."

I suggest that Dimmich have some experience in love before he is able to give his "expert" opinion on the subject.

He admitted that he has never been in love; perhaps his lack of a love-filled relationship has turned him into such a cynic.

I may be too much of an optimist, but I believe that a loving commitment can occur in the halls of academia. Your 20s are a time to meet and date different people and discover who is and isn't your Fabio or Scarlet. I suggest that instead of mocking those Ben & Jerry's pint-sharing couples that he should enjoy his 20s however he sees fit.

But in the mean time, he should limit his opinions to those subjects in which he has experience.
