Prices high without minimum wage hike

It is obvious that Gov. Ed Rendell's proposed minimum wage increase is causing a lot of controversy with area businesses ("Community divided over possible minimum wage increase," Sept. 26).

Just consider the effect that raising the wages of workers by a dollar or two could have on their profits. I would imagine that this huge economic drain would cause some stores to have to raise their prices in order to compensate. What if, for instance, McLanahan's decided to increase the cost of all their groceries, ripping us all off in the end? Oh ... wait ... nevermind.
