Last night, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate passed legislation that continues its efforts to increase student votes in State College elections.
In the new legislation, USG will submit a public service announcement to the Lion, WKPS-FM (90.7), as well as other local radio stations and area public venues, to remind residents and students about the elections. South Halls Sen. and Internal Affairs Chair Brock Coleman said the legislation is "open-ended" because it will be circulated to a variety of venues. He added the purpose of the public service announcement is to raise awareness among students, who are in the area most of the year and are therefore affected by local policies and politics.
State College elections for Borough Council and mayor will take place Nov. 8, and the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 11.
USG Senate also filled two vacancies by appointing Dang Nguyen as town senator and Mindi Brown as parliamentarian.
