Student hurt when car hit utility pole

A Penn State student was injured Monday night in a car accident and flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment, according to the State College Police Department.

Corinne Grissinger, 18, of Pine Grove Mills lost control of her car and spun counterclockwise into a utility pole on the 300 block of Branch Road, police said. According to police, Grissinger did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred because she was flung into the car's passenger seat.

Grissinger had to be extracted from her car by the Alpha Fire Department and was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of a fractured pelvis and cuts to her face and arms. Grissinger was flown to Geisinger Medical Center by helicopter for trauma treatment.

Grissinger's car sustained severe damage and was towed by John Tennis Towing. Branch Road was closed for about 30 to 60 minutes as a result of the accident, police said.
