Police arrest 22 in drug raid
Those apprehended face charges related to heroin, cocaine, marijuana or depressants

Twenty-two people were arrested in an early morning drug sweep yesterday after a number of Pennsylvania State Police and State College Police Department investigations.

Police initially issued 22 warrants alleging heroin delivery, cocaine delivery, marijuana delivery and delivery of depressants; 19 of the individuals charged were arrested. The remaining arrests will occur later this week, State College police Sgt. John Gardner said.

Three additional individuals were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses as a result of the search warrants.

About 40 county police and probation officers participated in yesterday's raid, which was one of many annual drug sweeps, state police Cpl. John Bravis said.

"Our vice units are relatively small," Bravis said. "If we schedule it this way, we can get quite a few individuals at one time."

He added that a small amount of drugs was confiscated, and one potentially dangerous situation was dealt with during a raid at the residence of a Spring Mills man.

David Lego, 22, had a machete, a hatchet, several military-style knives, two shotguns, a handgun and a homemade explosive device in his home when police arrived, Bravis said, adding that a squad was called to deal with the explosive, and no one was hurt.

"That particular device was powerful enough to blow up a car," he said.

Most of the investigations, which began in May, involved drug purchases made by confidential informants or undercover officers. District Justices Jonathan Grine and Bradley Lunsford arraigned the defendants and scheduled their preliminary hearings for 1 p.m. Oct. 5 at Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
