Letter to the Editor
Sources, reporters need to verify facts

There are some glaring mistakes in the article "Diverse cultures fuse in Indian celebration," Sept. 26.

First, I do not believe there are a 148 religions in India, probably not even in the whole world.

A simple Google search will show you that there are about 25 major religions in the world if you include "scientology." India has six major religions: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Jainism, Budhism and a very small number of people who follow Bahai and Zoroastrianism.

I do not know if the representatives of the Indian Graduate Students Association (IGSA) were misquoted by Jon Hukill or if the IGSA people themselves were wrong.

Believe me the distance from Pennsylvania to New York would mean a difference in language, culture, cuisine and architecture but definitely not a different religion.

I request that Collegian reporters do some research and quote representatives of student groups word for word before they write articles like this.
