Intra-squad scrimmages for Penn State baseball
The Penn State baseball team plans to host a series of intra-squad scrimmages during the remaining weekend this fall.
The team will divvy up into Blue and White sides similar to the annual gridiron tradition played out in Beaver Stadium by the football team.
This event will take place right next door at Beaver Field at 3:30 p.m. today, 2 p.m. tomorrow and at noon on Sunday.
"We just divide them up, and people are competing for jobs," Penn State baseball coach Robbie Wine said. "We want to show people what kind of team we're going to have this year."
This time of year, the Nittany Lions are not permitted to play other the schools. The team plans to scrimmage on subsequent weekends, scheduled around home football game.
"If there's a football game Saturday, we'll just play Friday and Sunday," Wine said.
In the team's first year under Wine, the Lions went 28-27 overall and 13-19 in the Big Ten. The squad had three players chosen in that spring MLB amateur draft, including No. 1 starter Sean Stidfole.
