Career fairs require professional clothing

Fall Career Days have come and gone yet something is still irking me: the lack of professionalism among my Penn State peers. To all you job-hungry ladies and gentlemen, when next semester's Career Days roll around, I hope you take these tidbits of advice for the fashion-challenged to heart:

Do not wear flip-flops to an interview. Ever. Unless you are applying for a position with a beach patrol, flip-flops and open-toed shoes are highly unprofessional. If you want to switch shoes between classes and interviews, that's fine. But do yourselves a favor and buy a pair of nice dress shoes. Consider it an investment.

White socks underneath a suit are just wrong. You're fired. Pant legs should not be exposing your white socks. See number two. Dark brown and black do not match. Pick one classic color if you are going to don a suit. Do not put so much product into your hair that you could launch a small village into flames if standing by a lit match. When all else fails, remember: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.
