Optimism important at University Park
In response to Thomas Mei's "Main campus a let down for PSU transfer student," Sept. 21. I am reminded of an expression: It isn't where you are, or how good the weather is that really matters: it is who you are with. I urge all of Penn State's newest students to become involved with in an organization to build life long relationships. Instead of moping around campus grieving with your head down perhaps you should smile or even go as far as to say hello to all 40,000 students you pass on "Laguna" and "Beach." My guess is that more than a few will smile back. If you want the social skills to succeed in life this is the place to exercise them. Surely, few of us came to Penn State with 20 friends at our side, however I'm willing to bet most have left with lifetime friends and many fond memories (some unforgettable, others perhaps a little hazy, but at least we know it was a good time). While a large campus like Penn State isn't for everyone, it's hard not to feel spirited at Beaver Stadium when you yell "We Are!" and 53,000 fans echo back "Penn State!" Eric Killian
