I'm a huge Missy Elliot fan, and I have been since her Supa Dupa Fly days.
I was interested to see what she would come out with next, and she surprised me with her latest album, The Cookbook.
The first single, "Lose Control" featuring Ciara, is obviously amazing and has already won her an award at the MTV Video Music Awards. But that's not what I'm going to talk about today.
Missy's latest single, "Teary Eyed," was released not too long ago and has made a splash onto MTV's video play list. The video might be Missy's most ingenious yet. The video features the incredible shrinking Missy Elliot (seriously, what is this girl's workout plan?) in jail singing about the man she loves, and who happens to be cheating on her.
Yes, you heard it right: Missy is actually singing in this song.
There's no Ciara in the background singing the chorus -- this song is sung 100 percent by Ms. Elliot herself.
Missy has been hiding this amazing voice, and it's about time we really got to hear it.
She does stop to interject a few rap lines, but she bounces back with soulful lyrics like, "I was gonna marry you, have kids for you/stay true to you, live life wit' you/But look what you've done to me."
The video tells the story of Missy seeking revenge on her man for his cheating with a much younger woman.
However, her plan is foiled when the tire she slashed on his car gives out, and her man and his mistress end up flipping their car and dying.
Though Missy looks perfectly put together throughout the video, it's the frames of Missy in her cell alone and the refrain of, "When I sing this song/I get so teary-eyed/'Cause you get under my skin/Can't let you suck me dry," that will be stuck in your head for days.
This video is a new side to Missy, and let me just say, I might even watch TRL to catch a glimpse of this video again.
