The possibility of future development on a controversial Penn State-owned tract of land may draw one step closer at tonight's Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Schlow Memorial Library will close today as it begins moving all of its library materials out of its temporary location and into its brand new location on Allen Street.

While Gov. Ed Rendell plans to make increasing the minimum wage a "top priority" when the state legislature reconvenes this fall, some students and downtown businesses diverge on the benefits of the proposal.

SPORTS

Chris Nirschel and the Penn State men's cross country team couldn't have scripted their first race any better.

Although a young team, the power of the Penn State women's cross country team is not lost, evident in having two sophomores and three freshmen as its top scorers. With only two seniors, three juniors and 11 true freshmen joining the team this year, youth is an obvious factor for the team, but the women refuse to let it hold them back.

The No. 7 Penn State field hockey team had a successful weekend, completing its quest for eastern Pennsylvania domination in two games that seemed to be exact replicas of one another.

The old phrase "defense wins championships" never grows old for the Penn State men's rugby team. The Ruggers did not allow a score in Sunday's 37-0 win against rival Ohio State yesterday.

The last time Deon Butler was that wide open in a game, he was in high school, the redshirt freshman recalled.

No. 2 Penn State women's soccer discovered this weekend that the best offense can be a good defense, as the Nittany Lions improved to 8-0, the best start in program history.

Members of the Penn State wrestling team swirled their shirts in the air as they ran around the Rec Hall's elevated track topless Friday. The student police didn't appreciate their enthusiasm, but Penn State women's volleyball head coach Russ Rose sure did.

The way shots were not finding the back of the net for the Penn State men's soccer team this weekend, you'd believe anything was possible.

It took three weeks and eight matches into the season for the Penn State women's volleyball team to play on its home court, but the No. 4 Nittany Lions (9-2) did not disappoint their fans this weekend. The Lions swept Seton Hall (30-20, 30-17, 30-20) on Friday, and then Pennsylvania (30-17, 30-16, 30-17) and Marshall (30-19, 30-25, 30-13) on Saturday in the Penn State Classic.

Looking like a student who had just finished his last exam of the semester, the Penn State men's soccer team was tremendously relieved when the final whistle blew yesterday.

When Derrick Williams signed with Penn State last winter, it was obvious that the second he put on a Penn State uniform, he would be an upgrade over the players the Nittany Lions had put on the field at wideout the last few seasons.

Paul Posluszny said Tim Shaw can "flat out fly."

Central Michigan quarterback Kent Smith can thank Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza for the not-so-warm reception he received from Penn State's defensive line on Saturday. The Chippewa quarterback was harassed, profusely, by a group of down linemen who'd finally gotten fed up with failing to bring down the quarterback.
