Ex-student jailed on ecstasy charges
Former Penn State student Chiho Chan, 26, of Broomall, pleaded no contest Friday to charges of possession of ecstasy with intent to deliver and delivery of ecstasy, according to court documents. Chan was sentenced to 90 days incarceration at Centre County Correctional Facility, followed by six months in home detention and three years of supervision.
Chan was originally charged with drug delivery resulting in the death of 23-year-old Stephanie Yau, but the charge was dismissed.
He was ordered to pay a $500 fine, $8,000 restitution to the Yau family and the costs of prosecution, and to complete 100 hours of community service, the State College Police Department said.
Student assaulted at campus bus stop
Three unknown men assaulted a male Penn State student at about 2 a.m. yesterday at the Curtin Road bus stop, Penn State University Police said. The victim was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. The victim said the assailants were white men, but he was unable to give further descriptions, police supervisor Frank Ball said.
Police: Crime usual for game weekend
The State College Police Department said criminal activity this weekend was consistent with most Penn State football weekends.
Police issued 15 citations for public drunkenness, one for criminal mischief, one for scattering rubbish, one open container citation, two for harassment, one for false identification, 12 minor's law citations, 16 for public urination, three for fighting, three for throwing objects, five for loud music/party and 23 for traffic violations. State College police Cpl. Timothy Sleeth said there were no serious incidents but "quite a few fights." There were 11 alcohol-related incidents that required medical assistance, he said.
