God not cause of Katrina devastation

Even in the religious hotbed known as Centre County, I can't believe people regard Hurricane Katrina as an act of God ("Katrina's wrath not act of an angry God," Sept. 8). And this is especially unbelievable since it comes from a school that boasts one of the most prestigious meteorology programs in the country.

But knowing that even those outside State College also believe this is an act against the sinful behavior in the Big Easy scares me. People need to stop pretending catastrophic events such as these are a punishment against those who don't believe in religion or those who act outside the realm of the Bible's code of "proper living." Hurricane Katrina was nothing more than a hurricane that hit a traditionally hurricane-prone area. I assure you that God had no place in this disaster.
