PSU student assault hearing continued

A Penn State student's preliminary hearing on aggravated assault charges was continued yesterday until Oct. 5 so medical records of the victim could be made available. Daniel Kapner, of the 300 block of East Beaver Avenue, was charged after State College police said he fought with a man about paying a $3 charge to enter a party at 307 Hamilton Ave. An argument between Kapner and the party's host began after Kapner refused to pay the charge, police said. Kapner is accused of punching Peter Pecora, the host's boyfriend, and putting him in a chokehold, police said. Pecora suffered a broken orbital that required surgery.



Man could be charged for head-butting

Penn State student Jeffrey Marguin is expected to face charges that he was involved in an altercation with two male Penn State students at about 2 a.m. yesterday on South Allen Street. The State College Police Department said Margin allegedly head-butted Drew Kisak in the face, inflicting moderate injuries. He is also accused of throwing Dimitri Woiciechowski to the ground and kicking him, police said.



Pretrial date set for Uni-Mart robbing

State College resident Ernesto Rivera, charged with robbing a State College Uni-Mart, waived his preliminary hearing yesterday at Centre County Courthouse, Bellefonte, and is now scheduled for a pretrial conference Nov. 15.

Rivera, who worked at Uni-Mart, 1200 S. Atherton St., is accused of stealing more than $24,000 in deposit slips from the store on July 27. According to police, he and another man fled to Fort Lee, N.J., after the robbery, where they were arrested for a motor vehicle violation. In the car, Fort Lee police recovered material from the Uni-Mart, contacted State College police and extradited the men. Rivera is charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and harassment.



Man waives hearing for campus theft

Penn State student Daniel Dougherty, who is accused of stealing $1,941.45 in cash and other items from the Intramural Building in the spring, waived his preliminary hearing yesterday at Centre County Courthouse.

Dougherty faces 12 counts of theft and receiving stolen property. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Nov. 15.
