NEWS

For the first time, people looking for a case of beer on Sunday afternoon this weekend were in luck.

There was a decrease in crime last weekend compared to typical football weekends last year, the State College police Department and the Penn State University Police said.

Bill Spotts used to work 80 hours a week in a group home, and he filled in the remaining hours taking classes at Penn State.

Investigations into academic freedom might draw conclusions on whether faculty members display bias in their teaching, but they will not be able to change Penn State policies.

It's that time that every college student, pre-college student and parent anticipates -- and some administrators dread.

Thursday night bar crawls, beer pong tournaments and rows of fraternity houses may not be as synonymous with Penn State culture as many students believe.

Taxes on commercial property, like apartments, may increase -- and students could pay more rent -- if the State College Borough Council approves changing its current tax structure.

Members of the National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) collected everything from dress shirts to Pop Tarts from residents of East and Pollock halls Sunday to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

As the war in Iraq declines in popularity, so have Army ROTC recruitment numbers at Penn State, according to at least one Penn State ROTC official.

Punter Kapinos honored for kicking performance

The new promotional video that debuted on the video screen at Beaver Stadium Friday night at "Football Eve" proclaimed, among other things, that, "Our quarterback has waited his entire life for this."

Arms folded, masking the number on his jersey that would give him away, Dan Connor looked bored.

Part of the plan was to have him relinquish the workhorse title. That part, Michael Robinson hoped, was mostly behind him. But on Saturday, he looked like more of a utility player/ running back than he did a quarterback.

It has been a team without a home for over a week now. At first, this was somewhat of a curse, toiling in the cornfields of Nebraska. Then it became a vacation on the sunny beaches of the United States' most western paradise, Honolulu.

No. 8 Penn State weathered an early storm of goals by No. 4 Virginia but responded with a tempest of their own in a 5-2 route of the Cavaliers in the program's biggest win in years in front of a Jeffrey Field regular season record of 2,768 fans.

As of late, the Nittany Lions have been downright offensive, and well, that is not a problem at all for women's soccer coach Paula Wilkins and company.

The field hockey team improved its record this weekend to 3-1, inching head coach Char Morett closer to 300 wins at Penn State and breaking in their new home dig, Astroturf Field.

Under Barry Gorman's tenure as Penn State men's soccer coach, the Nittany Lions have been a team that stresses an attacking style of play. At this weekend's Ohio State Classic in Columbus, the No. 23 Lions seemed to be the ones under attack.

No seniors. No captains. No problem.

Tyler Reed was quick to point out that technically, they're still kids. That the last time they played in a game that counted, they were still in high school -- playing in front of no more than 5,000 people.

Some people think that to get a piercing, you need to have a thick skin, which usually means having a high tolerance for pain.

"Bronze and beautiful" may be the way to go, but is it really worth the increased risk of skin cancer?

"I won The Price is Right one day," Derrick Ferree said casually, as a side note to his eight-week internship in Hollywood.

Normally, free time would entail a nap, some leisure reading, or Facebook stalking. However, when Chris Peters realized he had some free time on his hands, he decided to start a TV show.
