I'm very shocked at the lack of urgency from the federal government in helping the citizens of New Orleans. This country is the richest and most powerful country in the world, and from watching the news you'd think the hurricane disaster was happening in some poor, African country that doesn't have the resources to deal with such a disaster.

The first mistake of the government was its failure to realize many of the city's residents were poor and did not have the resources to leave the city on such short notice. The saddest thing was the lack of urgency in the government's response to the disaster.

This is a disgrace. Every citizen should be protected from disasters, no matter their economic status or ethnicity. The federal government should have prevented this disaster and ensuing anarchy, just as it did when the terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center.
