There exists a fine line between democracy and tyranny, finer than many feel comfortable admitting -- the tyranny of the majority.
It is a huge flaw in the definition of democracy and never has this flaw been so evident as during this administration. In fact, we are currently living under a tyrant by definition.
A tyrant usurps power or possesses absolute power that is not rightfully theirs. Democracy is meant to empower the people; it is the right of all people who live within these borders, not just those that share the ideology of the administration.
But when the majority assumes absolute control and proceeds to stigmatize the minority through propaganda and lies that were so tastefully demonstrated in Mr. McKinney's letter ("Terrorists lack will; U.S. shows strength," July 25), our forefather's dreams for democracy have been totally crushed.
