Two fraternity pledges charged in a faux kidnapping last month pled guilty this week to summary offenses during preliminary hearings.
Lee Hugar, 19, and Chad Norris, 18, pledges from Delta Tau Delta fraternity, 429 E. Hamilton Ave., were arraigned and charged with disorderly conduct by District Justice Carmine Prestia.
Both individuals face fines of up to $300.
In addition to disorderly conduct, Hugar was charged with the purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages.
The State College Police Department received a phone call on the morning of Friday, March 25, from a witness who said a man was duct-taped and being moved from the trunk of a car to a U-Haul in the rear parking lot of Premiere Theaters, 125 Premiere Drive.
Officers arrived at the scene, drew their guns and surrounded the vehicle in a high-risk stop.
According to court documents, the driver, Timothy Antoian, 18, told police everything was OK and that he was just a fraternity pledge.
Officers opened the back of the U-Haul and found the duct-taped individual and four men.
Antoian was charged with disorderly conduct and selling or furnishing liquor to minors. He waived his preliminary hearing last week.
Antoian said he, Hugar and Norris went to a beer distributor and purchased alcohol, according to court documents.
Court documents also state that Antoian used a false Pennsylvania photo ID with the name of his older brother and an incorrect birth date.
Court documents said the pledges were transporting the fraternity members to the University of Virginia chapter of Delta Tau Delta as part of a required pledge initiation "bolt" activity.
