Women's golf heads to Big Ten Championships

Collegian Staff Writer

The big dance is here. Yep, that's right it's time for women's golf Big Ten Championships and Penn State is thick in the middle of the action that will take place at the University of Michigan this weekend.

You shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, but for the Nittany Lions it will be hard not to. The team will have another opportunity to play the Michigan course, after already playing it early last fall and just got finished competing against seven Big Ten teams last weekend at Ohio State.

Big Ten Championships
Today through Sunday
Ann Arbor, Mich.

"[The team] has been reviewing course notes and visualizing the course during practice," Penn State coach Denise St. Pierre said.

While the team struggled early on with consistency, it seems to have fallen into its groove. The line up has been solidified, even though it came later than the team would have liked.

"The championship will be challenging and tough," St. Pierre said. "The season has been on and off and we will have to be consistent over four rounds to have a chance."

The team will be heading into its third invitational in three weeks, but the strenuous schedule isn't holding the players down.

The Nittany Lions return this week with consistency in their roster. Senior Lauren Lundy and junior Amber Weinerth head the team and are accompanied by Maggie Lester, Evelyn Paik, Emily Pavesich, and Christin Pacacha.

"We have a good chance of doing well with this team," St. Pierre said. "We have the talent we just have to be there for four rounds. It's a great course and hopefully we can do well."
