Gricar's records reviewed
The search continues for the missing district attorney

The Bellefonte Police Department is reviewing the medical records of missing Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar after obtaining a search warrant for access to the records.

According to the search warrant, Patty Fornicola, Gricar's girlfriend and a clerk in the district attorney's office, told police that for the past three weeks, Gricar had been complaining of fatigue and would often take naps at lunchtime and after work.

Fornicola said she asked Gricar to get a medical examination for any possible medical or mental conditions that might need attention.

Gricar was last heard from last Friday at 11:30 a.m. when he called Fornicola to tell her he was taking the rest of the afternoon off from work and going for a drive in his Mini Cooper.

Fornicola also told police that it was not uncommon for Gricar, 59, to take drives to relax and be by himself.

Bellefonte Police Chief Duane Dixon said Gricar's medical condition is not the only focus of the investigation, though there has been a lot of speculation about his condition contributing to his disappearance.

"Any medical condition or depression of his has not been proven," Dixon said. "It could be medical issues, foul play or him leaving on his own."

Dixon said police have just recently received the records and will be going through them in the coming days.

Dixon said one of the best leads the police received was the witness who claimed to be fairly certain he saw Gricar on Saturday at noon at an antiques store in Lewisburg.

Craig Bennett, owner of Street of Shops, 100 N. Water St., said he was "95 percent sure" he saw Gricar standing by the Remember When Café, a restaurant being built within the Street of Shops.

Police also said another witness has come forward saying he or she saw Gricar at another business between 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday in Lewisburg.

Dixon said the police are still interviewing this new witness.

Pennsylvania State Police helicopters and boats from local fire departments have been searching the Susquehanna River from Lewisburg to Harrisburg.

Dixon said they are considering sending divers out, but that decision has not yet been made.

Police also have sent five fingerprints found on Gricar's 2004 Mini Cooper to a Pennsylvania State Police lab in Harrisburg to determine the identity. Police said it is not certain when results will come back.

In the past few days, police have searched Lewisburg businesses for any information on Gricar's disappearance.

The search for Gricar will continue as long as it takes to solve the case, Dixon said during yesterday's press conference at the Bellefonte Municipal Building.

"As far as I'm concerned, we'll search until a resolution," Dixon said.

Fornicola issued a statement during the press conference regarding the recent speculation on her boyfriends's disappearance.

"There's been a lot of speculation of what has occurred, but we have no conclusive evidence on any of them," Fornicola said.

Dixon said the next press conference is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. unless there are any major developments before that time.
