This letter is in response to Kristen Kolibas' letter ("Police should make protection priority," April 18). I find it interesting that you choose to blame the University Police for your underage drinking citation, even calling them "absurd," instead of owning up to your own mistake.
You were helping your drunken friend, who I assume was more visibly drunk than you were, and that is commendable. So then you are spotted by police, probably the fault of your stumbling friend, and cited. But you fail to mention a few things. If your friend was underage, didn't he or she receive a citation?
Since you, too, received a citation, were you not drinking? Are you not underage? The law is the law and it is the job of the police to enforce it.
You made a mistake, not in helping your drunken friend, but in engaging in underage drinking yourself. We all make mistakes. Stop blaming the police for yours.
